WHY AUSTRALIA?
Australia is a dynamic and lucrative market. It has managed to avoid the negative effects of the GFC better than most countries in the world. It is a relatively open market in the areas of textile, clothing, footwear, furnishings and handicrafts. In addition, the Australian lifestyle supports an affluent and conspicuous consumer sentiment. The rise in consumer discretionary spending and population projections are further positive indicators.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that Australia’s economy will grow by 3.5% in 2011 – a much stronger growth outlook than that of advanced economies as a whole. This is in contrast with countries in Europe and Japan where growth is forecast at only 1.5% in 2011. The US economy meanwhile is forecast to grow by only 2.3%, while continuing to struggle with a double digit unemployment rate throughout 2011.
